Hi my dolls 🙂
How has it got to Sunday evening already .. these weekends go by way too fast! Hope you have all had a good one :). I spent today finding some bargains at a Sunday Market (I picked up a lovely coat and sleeveless blazer.. which I cannot wait to feature in an outfit of the day!), as well as taking some outfit pictures for some blog posts I have planned for the week. I like to take as many outfit pictures on the weekend, as I get home around 5:30-6pm after work during the week, and normally work out and have my dinner – and by that time it is going on 7:30pm! Not to mention the clocks will be going back soon, so it will start to get darker very early (I love this though.. makes me feel all cosy and wintery :D).
So.. I was very excited to put up this blog post, as it is all about DIY beauty fixes, including face masks, hair conditioners, body and lip scrubs! I absolutely love DIY beauty treatments so much, as they are so easy to make and you can create them all using ingredients you probably have in your kitchen.
Right girls, lets get our cosiest PJ’s on, prepare the face masks/scrubs and have a pamper evening! Some things to do before hand which really help and get you in the mood for a beauty night:
Steam your face by pouring boiling water in a bowl, draping a towel over your head, and let your skin steam for around 5-10 minutes. I also recommend added lemon to the water to add that extra zing! You should also soak your feet in hot water with added bath salts and bubbles, if you have a foot spa this is a plus! Oh and don’t forget to light some candles! Once this has been done, we can apply our face masks!
I have a few face mask recipes, for dry, oily and acne prone/scarred skin. All of these use natural ingredients, which have many benefits for the skin.
Yoghurt & Honey:
3 tbsp yoghurt (plain or greek is fine)- excellent for hydrating the skin!
1 tbsp honey – has so many benefits for skin, including moisturizing and soothing dry skin
Leave on for 20 minutes and wash off with warm water!
Acne prone/Scarred skin
4 1/2 tbsp porridge
6 tbsp hot water
1 1/2 tbsp yoghurt
1 tbsp honey
Mix together and apply on face for 20 minutes. This mask is great has it has soothing and antibiotic properties, thanks to the honey and porridge. I actually made this mask myself today, and it made my skin feel so smooth and look glowing. The porridge oats also means it has gentle exfoliation. A must try girls.. I had all my family try it too and they loved it!
Another very quick mask is egg whites and a few squeezes of lemon .. I am sure you have all heard of the excellent benefits of lemon on acne and scarring .. It helps reduce redness, irritation and cleanses the skin so well. Just mix 2 egg whites with half a lemon until it is foamy, apply to skin for 20 minutes and wash off. So quick, easy and cheap :).
Chocolate and Coffee Mask:
Now this one is perfect for all you coffee lovers 😛
2 tbsp fresh ground coffee
2 tbsp cocoa powder
1 tbsp honey
Mix together and leave on for 20 minutes .. this one smells so good and really works on brightening your skin and making you feel so awake.. It’s all that coffee in it! The coffee also helps with puffiness, and honey does an excellent job at rejuvenating the skin. Perfect 🙂
Gram flour mask:
2 tbsp gram flour (I always have this in my house as my mum uses it a lot for cooking, but you can pick it up from Asian supermarkets, and larger supermarkets too – it has excellent benefits for skin including helping with acne, oiliness and reducing scarring)
1 egg white – beat this and add the gram flour.
I find this mask works immediately in getting rid of oil and dullness. Gram flour really is a little gem when it comes to beauty, you can use it for exfoliation and fighting spots too :).
Now it is time to apply treatment to our hair! Make sure you have brushed your hair out, and wash out after or the next morning very well with 2 shampoo washes and another condition 🙂
DIY Hair Treatment
Coconut Oil – This works amazingly on dry, frizzy hair. It retains moisture and keeps hair looking and feeling so healthy and shiny. Massage into your scalp, and leave for at least an hour, before washing out. You can leave it overnight for an intensive treatment.
Black Seed Oil – If you suffer from hair loss, you must try this oil. It dates back to the Egyptians, who used to use it for its medicinal purposes. You only have to google “black seed oil” and you will see the benefits it has, including antibacterial, analgesic (pain reliever) and antioxidant properties! It is excellent for people with hair loss or thinning hair and helps the hair look healthy and moisturized. Just massage a small amount with some coconut oil to your scalp, leave on for 30 minutes and rinse off. Do this once a week :).
Now, lets get our body looking polished, cleansed and moisturized 🙂
DIY Body Scrub:
Whilst you have the hair and face treatments on, it is time to scrub up your body really well! Make this scrub beforehand and use it on your arms and legs, or in the shower. DIY body scrubs are also an excellent gift, and this Peppermint one will be perfect for upcoming Christmas gifts! These scrubs are also perfect for feet too, so use it to get them feeling soft and beautiful 🙂
1 1/2 – 2 cups of sugar – depending on how coarse or soft you want the scrub.
1/2 – 1 cup of coconut oil
4 drops of peppermint oil
1 tsp vitamin E oil
1-2 drops of green food colouring (for the minty colour!)
Mix all of the ingredients up, and adjust the sugar/oil if you want a more moisturizing or stronger scrub. If you are giving as a gift, put in a cute jar, tie some ribbon around the lid and add a label! I also saw an idea on Trusper, where you could use red food colouring for half the scrub, and layer it in a jar like a candy cane – how cute (this would be PERFECT for a Christmas gift!).
DIY Lip Scrub:
I am sure you have all seen this in Lush, but it is so easy to make your own!
1 tbsp honey
1/2 tbsp sugar
1/2 tsp Vaseline
Vanilla/Peppermint flavouring and colouring (this is optional, but adds a lovely touch if you are giving as a gift)
Mix everything up, rub on your lips and then wipe off. Remember to moisturize your lips well after ! This is such a good idea for winter time when dry chapped lips become common (we all want to avoid this!).
So…. that is my DIY beauty fixes! These have all been tried, tested, and loved – and I would love for you to give them a go :). I suggest doing this every week, and you really will feel pampered and knowing that you have made everything yourself is a plus!
Hope you liked this post my loves! I really enjoyed writing this, and hope you enjoy reading it too. I am now catching up on X Factor, and then will be off to bed for another week at work!
Goodnight my darlings
