Make-up for £1? Miss Beauty Review♥

Hey hey!♥

It’s been a while! How have you all been? Had a good week/weekend? Any big changes I need to know about? Hehe… apologies about all the questions.. I feel like I have been away for a while (Its been a few days).. and this ALWAYS HAPPENS TO ME! Why is it that a few days in the blogging world always feels like a few weeks? I think I will try to stick to my habit of posting Sunday & Thursday.. that seemed to work well for me and I never felt like I was away for too long! In fact lovelies, let me know how often you post/what days.. I would LOVE to know!!!

RIGHT DARLINGS… I have a very exciting post for you all.. especially those of you who are savvy shoppers and LOVE a good bargain (ahem… me included!). So.. I was VERY GENEROUSLY sent some beauty products from a company called Miss Beauty London*… which if are not aware of… is actually sold in POUNDWORLD. AND… each item is a POUND. Yep you read that right… now I already know what you are all thinking… make-up that costs a pound surely cannot work right? Well…. I will be honest, that thought was in the back of my head too…. BUT recently (especially after LOVING the Primark beauty range so much) I really have been loving more budget items.. and wanted to give these £1 beauty items a go!

SAM_4786

So… first things first loves… the BASE products. I have both the Flawless Matte Foundation* and the Face Powder*.

Flawless Matte Foundation♥

I was so pleasantly surprised that the shade of this was more or less a perfect match (wooop!).. as this can always be an issue when you are sent foundation! The consistency is on the runnier side… and is definitely light – buildable medium coverage ( I applied 2 layers).. and it definitely has the matte look as the name states! It felt very light on my skin and just blended perfectly with my beauty sponge… but I have also applied it with a buffing brush and it blended so easily then! The staying power was actually what I was most impressed with … I wore it on the warmest day of the year that we have had so far (eeek!)… and I could not believe that it was still ON my face after sitting in the sun! Obviously… as the evening came along… it had started to fade… but it definitely lasted the majority of the morning/afternoon! The staying power is usually one of my biggest problems with cheaper foundations… but for the price.. this foundation did an amazing job!

SAM_4791

Overall:

I absolutely LOVE this foundation.. in fact it has become my day-to-day foundation for Spring. I love how light it is, yet it still mattifies your skin so you are left with a beautiful natural looking base. I was SO impressed with the staying power… and would definitely purchase this with my own money for an affordable, everyday foundation! I think it would be perfect for work/university.. especially for students who are after a budget foundation! I adore the packaging… it is SO sleek and classic.. and it is quite small so will easily fit in your makeup bag! The only issue I had is that it didn’t seem like there was much product in the packaging.. I feel like I may get 2 weeks more of foundation.. then it will be out.. BUT… I suppose you have to remember it is only £1… and it is not breaking the bank if you have to re-purchase it! OVERALL.. I highly recommend this as a day time foundation lovelies… give it a go! (if you want to, hehe).

Face Powder♥

This powder was definitely another one of my favourite items… the shade matched my skin nicely (although it was slightly on the darker side.. but I do not see this as a problem especially as we have Summer round the corner.. sort of, ha!). It feels very silky, and when applied to my skin (with a large kabuki brush).. it applied so easily and mattified my face! ALSO… apparently this powder has sunscreen in it.. SO it helps protect your skin in the sun (not bad!).. I would still recommend using a normal SPF though (as I hope you all do ANYWAY!). The powder gives my skin a lovely, smooth, velvety finish.. and reminds me of the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder.. although I think I actually prefer the finish of THIS budget one! The packaging does feel quite flimsy (it is only plastic).. but I was expecting this … and it does not affect how the product works so I am not fussed too much about this!

Overall:

I love the finish this powder gives me.. it feels like velvet on my face and I cannot believe a powder that cost £1 could work so well. It helps the foundation last longer too… and does not feel powdery or look cakey on your skin after! I adore this powder so so much! I do not even think I have any negatives about this… so lovelies.. definitely check this out!

Mascaras♥

I was actually lucky enough to be sent ALL 3 mascaras that Miss Beauty have in their range.. so it was amazing to be able to review ALL 3 of them!

SAM_4792

SAM_4795

Volumising Mascara and Lengthening Mascara

Firstly.. I adore the packaging.. it is so sleek and simple! However.. that is probably the only thing that I liked about these products. I was SO gutted when I applied them as neither of them worked for my lashes…I was just not able to get them to work at all. Maybe it is just me and my weird lashes (hehe!)… I know products work differently on every person so if you have tried these mascaras and they work for you… let me know!

Waterproof Mascara

NOW THIS ONE… is a completely different story. I actually LOVE this one! I have never been one to wear waterproof mascara.. but I have been loving this one so much! It makes my lashes look volumised, lengthened and also very dark! I have quite watery eyes too (especially during hay fever season!).. so using this mascara means I do not get panda eyes anymore! So.. if you are looking for an affordable, waterproof mascara.. I highly recommend this one!

Overall:

The mascaras were the only thing I did not love from this range.. EXCEPT the waterproof one which I loved! The packaging and wands are SPOT on… but the formulation of the two mascaras just DID NOT get on with my lashes at all!

Fine Eyeliner♥

You guys will know me and that I love a good winged liner! So I was so chuffed to see an eyeliner .. BUT I was a little nervous because I am so used to using a felt tip pen.. rather than out of a “pot”. I was also a little apprehensive as the product was a very shiny black.. and I love me some matte wings guys. BUT GUESS WHAT.. this product DRIED matte.. so I was SO glad! The application is quite easy… it took the same amount of time to apply that my felt tip does.. which was fab! The staying power of the eyeliner is amazing too… I again used it on the hottest day we had.. and it stayed put! It is also so easy to remove.. which is always a plus!

SAM_4799

SAM_4806

Overall:

I love this eyeliner so much…. it is so easy to apply, long lasting AND dries matte (probably my favourite thing ha!). The ONLY issue is… getting some product in your eye. NOW this may just be me being clumsy.. but every now and again.. I somehow manage to hit myself in the eye with my eyeliner.. and unfortunately it happened with this and it did sting quite a bit.. although this disappeared within a few seconds. This does not happen with my usual eyeliner (although it has happened with pot eyeliners before!)… so I will just have to remember to be extra careful when applying this one!

SO LOVELIES… there we have my review of some AMAZING, budget makeup items! I know everyone loves a good bargain.. especially when it comes to makeup.. so if you are on the hunt for some new products.. I recommend giving Miss Beauty London a go.. especially their base products! They are available in Poundworld… so next time you are picking up some essentials.. give these a go!!

Right darlings… I hope you enjoyed this! I have quite busy day ahead of me.. I have some blog photos to take, a video to film, a room to clean (hehe) AND also.. a Body Shop event to go to (I cannot WAIT!)… SO I am going to love you and leave you guys.. have an absolutely AMAZING DAY!!!!

Lots of Love,

Saira

Blog Photography 101♥

Hiya lovelies!♥

Hope you have all had a wonderful week.. and also enjoyed your Bank Holiday.. how does it seem so long ago already?!

I wanted to do a post that would hopefully help A LOT of you lovely guys out there… Recently I have been having SO many compliments on my blog photos (you are a lovely bunch.. I could just squeeze you all!)… so I thought what better thing to babble on about than photography!

Quick little disclaimer too.. I am by NO means a professional.. I just take photos for my little blog and for fun too.. and everything that I have learnt has been through experience and knowledge picked up here and there from other bloggers! I have been blogging for around 8 months.. and I can honestly say that I think my photos have improved massively! SO.. without further ado… lets get on with it… woo!

The Basics♥

Background

Decide on what background you want. This is completely personal and up to you – whether you want a bright, colourful background, a white, marble background (the standard blogger background – and my personal fave!).. the choice is completely yours! Now this is where DIY shops come in handy… remember when your parents were re-decorating the living room and they took home about 20 different wallpapers to see what went well together? WELL… you can do exactly the same (tehehe).. so pop into B&M or B&Q and take a few “samples”.. just don’t go too crazy (ha!). Another thing that can work amazingly is a plain canvas! I also want to incorporate different textures into my background.. i.e. faux fur or blankets.. I have seen quite a few people do this and it looks GORGEOUS and really adds something to their images!

Location

Girls.. FIND YOUR BLOGGING SPOT. Whether that is a corner in your bedroom, the hallway.. the bathroom.. find a location that works for you! Now.. I mean a location where there is plenty of natural light, lots of room for you to move around, and NO CLUTTER! I like to use the space in the spare living room, right next to the window! It is also worth keeping a box/basket where you can keep items you regularly use in photos (such as props.. MORE on these later!). I am honestly DREAMING of the day I have my own office/blogging/vlogging room… but for now.. my living room will do!

Camera

Should I be honest with you girlys? The camera I use is a Samsung 16MP HD digital camera that Saj (the hubby) got me whilst we were at Uni (5 years ago). Yep. I would LOVE to invest in an Olympus Pen (THE perfect blogging camera).. but when you have a mortgage to save up for… it is (unfortunately) not the first thing on my shopping list (boo!!). I WILL GET ONE SOON! Hint… it is my birthday in July.. just saying. ANYWAYS.. the whole point of that little babble was to reassure you that any camera you have is FINE. Whether you have a Canon (dreamy), or are using your iPhone… your photos will still be FAB!

Editing

Now… for me … I had to include editing in this Basics list guys. Trust me.. it makes a MASSIVE difference into how eye catching/professional your photos look. Don’t be scared.. you do not have to do any fancy editing whatsoever! Just stick the brightness/highlight/contrast up a little bit.. and if you have bright colours… a teeny increase on the saturation never hurts. I use Pic Monkey for editing my blog photos.. it is SO easy to use.. and it is free! It is also pretty foolproof too.. so you should definitely check it out!

SAM_4400

So lovelies.. that is my advice on the basics of blog photos! These should hopefully help if you are just trying to up your blog photo game.. and are some good starting points!

NOW.. if you have mastered the basics (which I am sure you will… there really isn’t much to it.. hehe)… you can move onto the ADVANCED points. OK… they are not really advanced.. it is just things that take that little bit more effort.. and I feel are essential if you really want to up your blog photo game.

Advanced♥

Flat Lays

Ohhh .. nothing better than a good old flat lay image. Yes they take that little bit more time, yes they cause you to have a sore back, yes you look like an absolute BOOB when you are taking them.. but THEY MAKE A DAMN GOOD PHOTO! I only really started taking flat lays a few months into blogging.. now every photo of mine has to be one hehe! I thought I would share some of the tips/tricks I have picked up along the way!

One word. Chair. Enough said.

Props are literally your best friend when it comes to flat lays. I like to think of my flat lays as telling a little bit of a story (weird I know, haha!).. but I find that this helps me so much! See one of my favourite flat lays below:

IMG_9470

This was from my Teen Make Up Post.. and I used props that I associated with being young (the old generation iPod, baby lips lip balm, a very retro looking mascara).. and I loved how this image turned out!

Use one item as a “base” item. Then add other items that associate with that! For example.. use a glass of water (very basic I know)… then add some pretty drinking straws, some fake flowers.. maybe a funky little tray.. AND YOU ARE DONE! It really is all about getting creative and letting your personality shine in your photos!

SAM_4726.JPG

Confetti makes all the difference. Especially if you have a plain white background.. confetti just makes the image look extra special and eye catching. Trust me.. grab some confetti and go wild. Just keep the hoover close by.. you will make a mess, ha!

SAM_4408

Don’t go overboard. For me.. there is nothing worse than my flat lay looking too crowded. I like to be able to see the background too.. and I know when I have added way too much to my photos! Just experiment and see what looks right!

Lighting

For over 7 months of my blogging life.. I stuck to natural light/editing… and I was happy. HOWEVER.. once I started YouTube.. I realized lighting was that LITTLE bit more of an essential. I have included it in this Advanced section because I happily took all my photos without them… and you can too. However.. if you are able to invest in some.. I would say do it. They make taking blog photos so much easier… you do not have to worry about shadows, everything just looks more “crisp”, and you can take your photos at more or less any time and not worry about natural light as much! I use soft box lighting.. and I picked them up for £30 on eBay.. not bad at all ey?!

 Props

Anything makes a good prop. Beauty products, fake flowers, little bunnies, lipsticks… trust me.. have a Blog Prop Box with ANYTHING you find around the house and use it in your photos! It makes them so much more fun to look at! As mentioned before.. try not to add too many in one photo! A perfect example would be:

  • Your favorite beauty items
  • Some fake flowers
  • Small glass hearts
  • Some seasonal items (bunnies for Spring time!)

SAM_4455

DONE!

Lastly.. BE CREATIVE! Your blog and the photos you take are all about showing you and your personality. Get as creative as you want! If you want.. you can even make each of your images have a specific colour theme/beauty theme.. anything goes!

SAM_4714

General Tips♥

Take plenty of photos

Trust me.. the last thing you want is to take maybe 5″good” photos, put all your set up away, upload your photos.. and realize you hate every single one. Oh yes.. it happened to yours truly. AND it was a nightmare! Take as many photos from one angle, then move to another, and ANOTHER. This just means you have plenty to pick from!| I usually have around 80 photos to pick from.. and only end up using 8-9 ha!

Avoid the flash

The flash is evil. It makes your photos look washed out and weird. I have NEVER had any luck when using the flash.. so I recommend avoiding it! Stick to your natural light/soft box lighting… it looks SO much nicer!

Try not to over-edit

You want your pictures to look bright, crisp and clear. You do not want a blue/orange toned photo, or an image that is WAY to bright to look at! As I mentioned previously, a little bit of an increase in the contrast/brightness/highlight is all you need.

Designate a blog photo taking day

This will make your blogging experience so much easier! Set up your little photography studio (ahem .. in that little corner of your bedroom).. and take 2-3 posts worth of blog photos on one go! This means that everything you need is in one place.. and you are not running back and forth searching for your items to photograph! It also helps when you are writing.. as your photos will always jog your memory of what you are talking about!

Some Quick Instagram Tips!!

I thought I would add in some SPEEDY tips for Instagram photos!

  • Take these at the same time you take your blog photos! It makes complete sense right.. you have everything set up.. why not? I like to take my weekly set of Instagram pics so they are all set to go up!
  • For convenience.. take them on your phone camera! This means they are easy to access and quicker to edit too! I use PS Express to edit my Instagram photos.. and I use the same editing style for these too!

So loves.. that is my advice for blog photography! I personally think photos are SO important.. and are one of the main things that drive people to your blog! EVERYONE loves seeing lovely, bright images… so I really hope you are able to pick up on some of these things to help you!

I hope this post was informative.. I would love to know any tips you have, as I am always willing to learn more! Remember to just have fun and be as creative as possible! Thank you SO much for reading darlings.. and I cannot wait to see you in my next one!

Lots of Love,

Teen Make-Up Trends vs Now♥

Hiya lovelies…. HOPE YOU HAVE ALL HAD A WONDERFUL WEEKEND SO FAR! What have you been up to? I spent my Saturday being VERY lazy actually (eeeek.. SO unlike me!). It was an all-day pajama day.. I took a few posts worth of blog photos, changed my bedsheets and made some gourmet chicken burgers! Sounds about right doesn’t it? I think Saturdays like this are needed sometimes.. it is SO nice to just chill out and do things at your own pace and not feel rushed! I think the fact that I have a week off work (YAYAYAY) has helped this too… As it means I do not have to worry about cramming everything in on the weekend.. like the usual mad dash I have to deal with!

RIGHT angels….. I have a bit of a chatty/reminiscent post for you today. Now.. I know with the majority of us being beauty bloggers, AND sassy young women, I think we consider ourselves to know quite a bit about the latest beauty trends/what the best products are out there… BUT .. were we always like this? Anybody remember what their makeup/beauty was like back in the day… I think it is time we took a little trip down memory lane ey? Have a peek below darlings and let’s see how many of these make-up “trends” you followed!

IMG_9470

White Eyeshadow♥

Then: One single swipe of bright white eye-shadow all over your eyelid – the SASSIEST eye makeup around! You were definitely the baddest girl EVER when your wore this eye-shadow – EVERYONE ADMIRED YOUR EYE MAKEUP SKILLS. If you were brave enough to use blue eyeshadow.. wow girl.. HATS OFF to you.

Now: Nothing short of perfectly blended eye-shadow with the most PERFECT wing is expected. The only white eye-shadow in sight is in the inner corner of your eyes to brighten them up… after all you are up at the crack of dawn for work.

Panda Eyes♥

Then: DARK, BLACK KHOL WAS YOUR BESTIE! It was THE THING to have the darkest, most mysterious panda eyes EVER. You would go through SO many khol liners, and black eye shadow was NEEDED for making everything STAY in the place

Now: Usually… a single, soft brown/black liner on your waterline is enough… nobody wants black eyes right? WE LAY OFF LOTS OF KHOL NOW RIGHT?

Frosty Lips♥

Then: All you would ever want in life was to have the glossiest, stickiest, most glittery lipgloss EVER. If it was flavoured.. THAT WAS EVEN BETTER. It didn’t matter that your hair got stuck in it every time you went out… all you would need to do is reapply ever hour. Do NOT even get me started on those lipgloss tubes…. it was ESSENTIAL that you built up a collection of these so you could have a different colour every day.. AND brag to your friends about them.

Now: Really though… sticky lipgloss is the WORST. Shiny.. not so bad… glittery.. hmmm… as long as it is SUBTLE. I do not know about you but lipgloss in a tube is a NIGHTMARE… WE NEED PRECISION WHEN APPLYING.

Orange Face♥

Then: Bronzing pearls were your bestie…. you would use a massive fluffy brush (may I add that was used for EVERYTHING ELSE too) and go WILD applying that bronzer. You had to look like you had just been on holiday right? The colour “orange” meant nothing to you… you were “glowing”

Now: Contouring is your babe… and you use precision brushes so you can get the most BEAUTIFUL look on your face. You are an EXPERT at applying bronzer to give you a health glow… no orange-ness in sight. W are smart, sassy ladies and we know to stay away from anything too orange-y

Clumpy Lashes♥

Then: You would never leave the house without at least 5 layers of mascara on… all you saw when you blinked was a black curtain. It was all about having the thickest, clumpiest, most spidery lashes EVER.

Now: Long, fluttery eyelashes that are individually separated … and you NEVER need more than two coats. Sometimes.. falsies may be be used to help increase the length/volume of your BEAUTIFUL lashes… but THERE IS STILL NO CLUMPINESS IN SIGHT

No Brows Whatsoever♥

Then: All your eyebrows would be was a line of hair above your eye.. they would be PLUCKED LIKE MAD every Sunday night.. and any time ANY hair grew.. this HAD to be removed by your trusty tweezers. In fact.. you would even carry these bad boys in your bag so you could do your work on the go

Now: After hating yourself that you got rid of your beautiful brows, you have to deal with the PAINFUL wait of them growing back again (hello monster brows). SOMETIMES THEY DID NOT EVEN GROW BACK! Your eyebrow pencil/wax/powder is your bestie… and beautifully shaped, full brows are the result! Bet we are kicking ourselves now for thinning them out so much when we were younger ey?

Disco Ball♥

Then: Glitter. Glitter in your hair, glitter on your body… glitter on your eyes.. GLITTER EVERYWHERE. You were practically a WALKING DISCO BALL

Now: Glitter on ANYTHING is a no go. Except maybe eyeshadow… if you are doing fancy dress….

So there we have it darlings!! I really hope this post made you giggle.. Ohhhh to be young and carefree again (ha!).. it really is SO funny to think back about how your makeup was when you were in school. Bet you never thought we would be looking back and giggling at ourselves! DO NOT even get me started on hair/fashion when we were younger.. that is a WHOLE post in itself. Butterfly clips, crimped hair and coloured hair extensions anyone?

IMG_9471

Right darlings… the sun is shining outside….  Spring is OFFICIALLY HERE (YES!!).. So I am going to enjoy the BEAUTIFUL weather (make the most of it before it starts raining again ha!).. I really hope you enjoy the rest of your day! Make sure to let me know what other make-up trends you followed when you were younger.. AND if you followed any of these too!!

See you all in my next one lovelies!

Lots of Love,

Saira
