Getting Your Dream Career & My Story♥

Happy Friday guys!♥

Now.. I mentioned in one of my previous blog posts that I had some news to share with you.. and that is.. I HAVE A NEW JOB. This post is going to be telling you ALL ABOUT how I researched to find the career I wanted AND how I landed my new job as a Buying Assistant.. and hopefully some motivational tips to help you get your career going!

For over a year now, I have worked in HR in a busy head office.. and at first, I REALLY enjoyed it. There was so much to learn and I felt like I had found the profession I wanted to make a career out of. However, a few months in.. I found that I was just not loving what I did anymore.. I was becoming bored of the same queries, there was no place to move up and improve my skills, and I just felt I wasn’t getting anywhere in my job. Now.. I am not the type of person to just grin and bear it… I have always believed that if you are not happy with something.. you need to go out and fix it. Nobody is going to do it for you.. YOU are in charge of your life and how successful you become. So… I thought to myself, I need a career goal to focus on… something that I can be passionate about and love what I do too.

img_1594

That is when I came across the world of Buying. I was familiar with the ever so popular career of “Fashion Buying”, ( I am thinking Rachel from Friends here guys).. I did my research.. became familiar with the type of skills/personality qualities that you need.. and do you know what? I knew it was what I wanted to do. So… I am going to give you some tips that I personally picked up on how I found out what was for me, how I went about getting a job.. and even some tips for that dreaded interview (Ooooh, aren’t you all lucky, hehe!).

Do your research

I cannot stress this enough.. sure we can all think about a job we want to do.. and googling it in itself is not enough to go off completely. However.. it is a good starting point. I googled general information about Buying, what industries there are, how to get yourself into the industry, what qualities/skills are required  and whether or not I needed a degree/further study to land a role. Then.. I looked up interviews of people who were already buyers in a variety of fields (fashion, beauty, food) and got an idea of what it would be like day to day. Once I was set on what I wanted to do… I spoke to a lady at work who looks after careers/early training and got some advice from her. The first (and most important) thing she said to me? Network. Onto my next point….

Network

Oh my goodness guys.. I cannot even tell you how important it is to network… now more than ever people are landing jobs because of WHO they know.. not what. This was actually how I found out about my new job (more on this later). Nothing will help you get a job you want more than putting your name out there and making the effort to speak to people you want to work with. So, I got a list of people who were currently buyers at the place I work (including managers), and sent a good 20 emails out to arrange a catch up with them. I probably met with a total of 5-6 people (I also found out buyers are VERY busy and hard to get hold of).. but these catch ups were probably the best thing I did. I got SO much valuable information from them, and it also helped get my name out there and show them how passionate I was to land a role in buying. Meeting people who currently work where you want to be helps you know the in’s and out’s of the job.. all the good and bad bits that articles on Google won’t tell you and helps you decide if it is what you want to do.

Check for internal positions/training schemes

I am lucky in the sense that I work in a head office of a massive supermarket branch.. meaning I was in the same building as the traders, so it was easy to set up meetings. However if you are not in the same position.. email is your best friend. It is so easy to find details of managers/recruiters.. and to be honest the worst thing that can happen is you do not get a response. If you are in a position where you can change roles internally.. check them out. You are more likely to land a role if you are internal.. companies prefer these to external candidates as they are easier to get hold of, they also know the business and have that loyalty to stay with them too. It is also worth checking if your company offers any sort of training/graduate schemes… again if you are internal it helps because you are able to get your contacts together and you will have the advantage of knowing how the company works beforehand. I originally tried to get myself onto the graduate scheme, and met with people who had been on it. However… I actually started my research a week before the graduate scheme started.. so I think it had gotten too late to get myself onto that. BUT… whilst I had been networking, I met a buyer who was actually looking for a buying assistant. THIS is how I found the role I have got … it meant I had a good starting relationship with the buyer, and she knew that I was interested. She was actually one of the ladies that interviewed me too.. which I think helped massively in me landing the role (talk about good timing ey).

img_1584

SO… that is how I decided what role I wanted and how I got myself the interview… now for some tips for the interview itself!

Preparation is VITAL

One of the worst things you can do is go into an interview without doing some sort of preparation…  this sort of thing stands out by a MILE when you are being interviewed… TRUST ME. Obviously.. every interview is different but doing some research about the company and the role itself, and also being clued up on your CV and how it matches up with the role profile will definitely help you feel prepared! Also.. finding out what type of interview it is will help (group, value based etc)… mine was actually value based meaning I was asked questions about the values the company holds and how I would fit in and deal with any issues. Giving examples is always really good in these types of interview… so this is where your prep will come in very handy!

Eye Contact

There is nothing more important than making eye contact in an interview… I KNOW how nerve wracking and scary they can be.. but it is your chance to show off your skills and knowledge you have. Making eye contact shows confidence and the ability to hold a conversation well… just don’t stare with wide eyes for too long guys.

Dress Well

Again.. there will be a difference in what to wear to interviews depending on what industry it is.. but for the most part, a smart shirt/dress will work fine. JUST DO NOT WEAR JEANS/TRAINERS.

img_1586

OK guys… so that is the advice I have about interviews.. if you want me to go into any more detail.. just let me know and I will be more than happy to help you!

Now … just a few points that I think are so important to consider when trying to find your career path.. again these are all based on my personal experience and is just some general advice! If there is anything that you have picked up … I would LOVE to know!

Take a chance

There might be a job you really want to apply for or get more information on.. just take that chance. You really have nothing to lose.. especially if you are currently employed. If you get it.. WELL DONE.. if not.. you still have something to fall back on. You will not get very far with “what if’s”.. if you are passionate and want to change something enough, go for it girl.

Start from the bottom

Everyone has to start somewhere… so don’t be disheartened if you just start with some filing or picking up the phone. This is your chance to show people you are going to work hard and you can achieve what you have your heart set on. I think this is the same in any sort of job, whether that is buying or even blogging… everyone has to start somewhere right? People will see your effort and it DOES pay off.. I am SUCH  firm believer of this too.. I don’t focus on “good things come to those who wait”, no no noo… “good things come to those who work their ASS off”. Also… another good thing about starting from the bottom.. it means you have access to the industry you want to be in.. so you can focus on research and networking (see above!).

You know what? I feel like that was probably one of the most serious posts I have written.. but I really hope it helps some of you! I am actually starting my new role in a few weeks so will definitely keep you updated on how things go! Thank you SO much for reading.. and I really hope it motivated some of you! Let me know if you have a career you really want to go for..OR if you are already doing something you love!

I will see you all in my next one!

Lots of Love,

Saira

What Blogging Has Taught Me♥

Hiya lovelies!!♥

HOW ARE YOU ALL ON THIS LOVELY SUNDAY MORNING! I say lovely.. the sun is out.. BUT THERE IS ICE EVERYWHERE! We are in April.. this should not be happening, ha! ANYWAY…. aside from my update on the weather.. I hope you have had an absolutely amazing week… what have you been up to? I had my first full week at work in what seems like ages.. and surprisingly it passed very quick (woop!).

So… I was having a little think of what I could blog about.. and it dawned on me that I have been blogging for around 7 months.. and I have learnt quite a fair amount (if I do say so myself, hehe) about the blogging world.. and thought it would be fun to share all of these! Now darlings.. bear in mind this is a light-hearted post (as is everything on my blog)… so grab a cuppa, and be prepared to find out what I have learnt from blogging!

Diaries/Notepads will become your most favourite/used thing EVER♥

SAM_4417

Because they make amazing blog props, they are your LIFE when it comes to planning posts/jotting down ideas… etc. ALSO.. there is nothing more satisfying than writing (with coloured pens) in your notebook, and ticking off things. BEST FEELING EVER.. I feel SO liberated when I can tick off a post I have just put up! WOO!

The hours between 6-9pm are dedicated to Twitter chats♥

Now of course.. I am sure not ALL bloggers take part in Twitter chats.. but I try to take part in AT LEAST ONE a day. They are honestly one of the BEST ways to catch up with fellow bloggers and just ramble on about different topics! So… for at least an hour a day.. I am glued to my phone.. typing away… just make sure you have it on silent because your notifications WILL GO CRAZY.. and all you will hear from people around you is “TURN THAT BLOODY PHONE OFF”. Ha.

Flat lays give you the worst back ache EVER♥

SAM_4414

BUT THEY ARE SO BEAUTIFUL. I am a massive lover of a good old flat lay… I have recently tried REALLY hard to make my photos look as GOOD as I can.. and in the few months I have been doing this.. I heave learnt the pain that comes with getting that perfect image. Picture this guys… me in my PJ’s.. no makeup on.. hair an absolute mess.. standing on my wooden dining chair in front of the massive mirror (I do get a few stares by the way ha)… snapping away! Now.. I like to take all my photos on one day (today is actually my photo taking day).. so obviously all this bending down gives you SUCH a back ache hehe! Oh.. the things we do for a good blog photo (sigh).

Weekends/Evenings become blog orientated♥

Now the good thing for so many of us bloggers is that blogging is our little escape from the craziness/business of our daily lives.. so I LOVE to spend a few hours every weekend/evening especially for blogging. So much of my life revolves around blogging (haha.. COME ON.. fellow bloggers I KNOW you are with me on this).. almost every single beauty/fashion item HAS to featured on my blog. When I discover something AMAZING, spot a good deal or use something that bloggers have been RAVING about.. IT HAS TO BE SHARED WITH YOU ALL. That is just the way it is when you become part of the blogging world.

SO much more happens behind the photo♥

This is what you see:

SAM_4424

This is what I see

SAM_4429

Say hello to Cookie!

There is ALWAYS someone to talk to♥

I have learnt that whatever time it is… if I need an opinion on a product, some fashion tips, a recommendation OR just someone to have a giggle with… I just tweet. YOU GUYS NEVER LET ME DOWN. I am completely obsessed with Twitter, and the majority of bloggers are too.. so a CRAZY amount of time is spent on our phones!! This also means that there is always SOMEONE up to talk to.. yay!

The blogging community is SO supportive!♥

Now… I was welcomed into the blogging world SO WELL by everyone… it is honestly such an amazing community to be part of. Bloggers are always willing to help you out… and because we have SO much in common with each other.. it is SO easy to get along with everyone! I recently started a YT channel.. and the support I have had from bloggers has been absolutely INSANE!!

You can never have enough fake flowers/props♥

SAM_4419

Any cute, flowery, funky looking prop is essential… and I have got a right lovely little collection going on at the moment. I have learnt that no photo is complete without some sort of prop.. whether that is fake flowers, confetti, cute little bunnies… yep I have a little box of blog props going on! My aim for the next few weeks is to DIY a few shoe boxes to create a cute box!! Would you guys like a post on this?

Blogger Emails/Mail is the most exciting thing EVER♥

Enough said. I cannot even tell you the excitement you get when a company you love emails you/responds to you. AND DO NOT EVEN GET ME STARTED WHEN YOU RECEIVE BLOGGER MAIL! (I love this phrase by the way hehe).

Blogging is the best decision I ever made♥

Hands down. BEST DECISION EVER. I enjoy it so much.. I have “met” so many lovely people.. worked with some of my most FAVE brands.. and love coming home after a hard day at work and just settling down with my blog. My favourite things to do is think up different blog ideas, catching up on other blogs and spend time typing away!

So lovelies.. these are just a few things that spring to mind when I think about how my life has changed since blogging. I honestly cannot believe it has been almost 7 months since I started my blog… it really has been the best decision I have ever made! It even gave me the confidence to start a YT channel.. something that I have wanted to do for the longest time! It is SO weird to think that at one point these things meant NOTHING to me haha!

ANYWAYS LOVES.. I hope you enjoyed reading this post.. make sure to let me know what things YOU have learnt since blogging. Have you been blogging for months, or years? SO… Lets see what the next 7 months brings us ey?!

Have a lovely Sunday darlings.. and make sure to check out my new YouTube video (that went live yesterday!).. I also cannot even believe the response that has had.. I had over 100 subscribers in less than 2 weeks! Eeeeeek!! That is thanks to all the support you amazing bunch give me.. I really do love you all *gives you all the biggest hug ever*.

Thank you SO much for reading lovelies.. Make sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel if you haven’t already! I will see you all in my next one!

Lots of Love,

Saira

SAM_3178SAM_3175SAM_3184

(Grrr car got in my picture!… I suppose that is what I get for living near a main road ey!).

I cannot even tell you guys how long I have wanted a black faux fur gilet! You will know if you follow my blog how much I LOVE my cream gilet that I have.. and I definitely wore it TOO MUCH! It was such a staple for me this winter.. and I knew as soon as I saw this baby in the Topshop sale I HAD TO HAVE IT! I spotted it on a quick shopping trip and could not resist picking it up! It was £30 down from £65… so was a right little bargain! I have not stopped wearing it since picking it up!

I think it is still available on the Topshop site.. so make sure to check it out!

SAM_3194SAM_3180SAM_3182SAM_3190SAM_3196

Can we just appreciate how ADORABLE my kitten jumper is! The fact that I picked it up for £3 in a charity shop just makes it BETTER! It was originally from New Look AND still had the tag on. I will be doing a post on some tips for shopping in charity shops too.. so I hope you are looking forward to that my loves!

You have seen these adorable jeggings from H&M in my previous OOTD’s… they are SO unbelievably comfortable too! Of course, I rocked my GO TO black boots from Primark.. will I ever get enough of these? I think NOT hehe! I finished the look of with a black hijab and Rimmel 107 on my lips (you guys know this is the norm for me now!!).

SAM_3188SAM_3200

I felt SO comfortable all day .. this type of outfit has been my STAPLE for the past few weeks.. a cute jumper, gilet & some comfy jeggings! Do you girlies have a staple outfit you can always rely on? Let me know!

Also .. loving my bag from LYDC*! If you fancy seeing what I keep in it everyday (and a sneaky 10% off code) .. make sure to check out my What’s In My Bag post!

SAM_3198

There we have it lovelies!! I hope you loved this outfit just as much as me! Also.. let me know if you have ever picked up any gems from charity shops!

So sweeties …. should we have a catch up? My week has of course been spent at work… which as usual as been very busy (but I LOVE it).. I LOVE having a job that keeps me busy and with something to do all the time. I have also just been arranging getting my name changed everywhere after getting married .. which can I just say is CRAZY! I don’t think you actually realize how many places you have to change your details ha!

I am also planning some exciting posts for the next few weeks on my blog.. I did set a schedule, but I cannot say I have stuck to this hehe! I think it is so much more FUN to just blog about what I want and on days I want to… I still plan what posts I will be putting up during the week.. that way I am not stuck on what to post! Do you guys have a blogging schedule that you stick to? Or do you just prefer to go with the flow?

So darlings.. I hope you enjoyed this post! I am slowly growing a collection of kitten printed clothes … do I dare purchase a pair of leggings with kittens on them? Oooooh I think  I would have to be quite brave to do that hehe!

Have a fabulous week angels .. and I will see you in my next post!

Lots of Love,

Back to Black (& Grey)♥♣

Well hello lovelies!♥♣

It is me again (WOOP WOOP!)… I really wanted to put up another post … just to have a good chat with you and also ANOTHER FASHION POST. Ohh don’t I spoil you all :P. I am actually in the process of putting up a Winter Beauty/Random essentials post … so keep a look out for that angels!

So… It has been a very busy week at work as I mentioned in earlier posts … making sure everybody gets paid correctly is hard work haha! I also received some upsetting news about one of my friend’s at University this week … meaning I wasn’t feeling my usual upbeat self for a while. However, I know that everything happens for a reason, no matter how bad it is. The rest of the week was just spent relaxing as usual!

Anyway … my Saturday consisted of sleeping in until 9AM (this is a lie in for me ha!), putting up a blog post and then going shopping for a dress for my Registration ceremony (for marriage). I actually ended up finding one and it is BLACK …YES BLACK .. Only I would choose to wear black (hehe!). I am planning on getting some red shoes though to add a pop of colour! I then just catching up on some TV in my PJ’s … so a very lazy Saturday night for me!

So lovelies … I have a fashion post for you WOO! Funnily enough, this outfit is actually from a week ago when I worked from home and had good lighting… but I just never got round to putting them in a post!

SAM_2743SAM_2765SAM_2751

I feel like this type of outfit is definitely my go-to one. I am sure you guys know how much I LOVE wearing any type of black trouser/jeggings … and I am sure you also know how much I love midi skirts. Recently….. I have been reaching more for midi skirts rather than trousers. They are definitely a very classic, versatile piece to have and can definitely be dressed up or down! They have become SUCH an essential in my wardrobe 😀

SAM_2742SAM_2774SAM_2768SAM_2766

I think this particular outfit is quite smart and is definitely something I would wear to work or for going out in the evening. I think you have probably seen each item in an individual outfit post before (whoops .. You know that once I like an item I wear it so so much :P). And I am rocking BLACK AND GREY AGAIN YAY! Are you sick of this yet… no? Good :D. I do have a feeble attempt at trying to add colour by wearing red lips again 😛

Outfit Details:♥

Fuzzy Jumper – New Look (me thinks)

Midi Skirt – New Look

Boots – Primark

Sleeveless Blazer – Market

Scarf – Market

Lipstick – Rimmel 01

SAM_2781SAM_2775

I literally feel like I want to buy SO many midi skirts and fluffy jumpers in ever single colour and just wear them (Oh aren’t I just so imaginative :D). I suggest you all go out and  buy a midi skirt – and you will see how versatile it is!

I am thinking of doing a post on different ways to wear midi skirts … let me know if you would want to see this!

So my loves .. I really hope you like this outfit! It is definitely a typical “Saira” outfit. I recently was nominated for “Best Dressed Blogger” (what .. me!?)… So I was so so excited to put an outfit which just defined me and also one of my favourite outfits from all of my older outfit posts. I love this one because it is so classic, can be worn for a casual or smart event, and is also modest so is definitely perfect for us Hijab wearers! I also feel like it is so simple and not too “in-your-face” … I absolutely love the mix of textures – the jumper is so fun and “fuzzy”, and the midi skirt is knitted so is PERFECT for the colder months (although it has not been very cold at all .. I am still hoping for snow this Christmas though! This competition is being hosted by Fire Label – A wholesale merchandiser … and they will be revealing the winner on 21st Janurary 2016… So fingers crossed!♥

That will be all for today lovelies!! I REALLY hope you like this outfit .. and wish me luck for the “Best Dressed Blogger!”

Lots of Love,

Saira ♥

Morning Routine… & My Everyday Makeup!♥

Hi my angels!

Hope you have all had a fantastic week so far …. I have to admit – mine has not been the best! It’s been quite stressful .. you know one day everything is great, and then the next day BOOM .. so many things go wrong.. yep it’s been one of those weeks. BUT I am never one to dwell on things and let them stress me out/upset me .. so let’s not focus on that ey lovelies!

I thought I would do a beauty/lifestyle-ish post today! And it is my morning routine (wooo!). Now, this is my routine during the week – my weekend routine is slightly different – maybe that will be another post soon (hehe!). I also thought I would talk about my everyday makeup routine too .. it is very basic and quick – I need something like this as I like to get as much sleep as possible! I also am one to shower on a night as if I don’t, I have to wake up at 6AM because my hair takes SO long to wash AND dry..I may wear a scarf but I would NEVER leave the house with wet hair.. ESPECIALLY WHEN IT IS COLD!

So my darlings … let’s follow my morning routine!

6:40AM – My DREADED alarm goes off. I snooze it 😛

6:43AM – Another alarm goes off – now I feel as though I can wake up – for some reason those 3 minutes that I get to sleep in make ALL the difference to me *very sarcastic tone* ha! I put on a huge hoody and fuzzy slippers as I am always SO cold when I wake up (boo!)

6:45AM – I go to the bathroom (Surely no additional details needed here). I brush my teeth and wash my face – my GO TO face soap is Movis by Lush, it is AMAZING and I featured it in an earlier post of mine HERE if you want more information on it. IT SMELLS LIKE BISCUITS GUYS!

6:55AM – I am done in the bathroom – and then head back to the bedroom to start on my make-up! I firstly moisturize my face, then grab my make-up bag, sit on the floor in front of my mirror and get started! Oh also guys – bear in mind I do my make-up everyday in very dim lighting, as my husband is always still sleeping whilst I get ready so I don’t turn the main light on (I ALWAYS make sure I check everything in the bathroom mirror before I leave, JUST in case I am too pink one day :P).

7:00AM – Time to get started on my make-up! Read below for my routine and the products I use 😛

SAM_2536

Firstly, foundation! I use Estee Lauder Double Wear in Ivory Beige – I never bother with primer (at least for during the week) – this foundation has amazing lasting power anyway and still looks amazing even after I finish work! I use the Real Techniques Buffing Brush to apply my foundation. I also spray my brush with the Botanics Rose Spritz before I use it … it helps my foundation go on smoothly.. give it a go loves!

Next I use the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder with my Kabuki Brush from No7, and buff it onto my face. This powder is AMAZING and does not look cakey at all! I am sure you have all tried and loved this powder – It is a must have!

For some reason, instead of finishing my face make-up, I move onto eyes (not sure why – weird habits I suppose). I use the Collection 2000 24hour Extreme Liner (I think that is the correct name!) and line the top of my lid.. I don’t actually do winged liner during the week! Then I apply mascara – at the moment my favourite is Maybelline Colossal Go Extreme Volume Mascara.. It makes your eyelashes look AMAZING!

Once my eyes are done – I move onto the rest of my face! I use the ELF Blusher Brush to apply blush to the apples of my cheeks (lots of ‘ushes’ there guys.. haha!) – and of course I use my trusty Barry M palette (which was featured in my November faves HERE) I also use the highlighter in this palette for the tops of my cheek and down the bridge of my nose :). You will also notice Rimmel’s 107 lipstick in my picture – I skip this step during work days, but it is a STAPLE for my weekend make-up!

I then use the Boots Botanics Rose Spritz on my face, which I feel just gives my makeup a gorgeous, healthy glow! I then use some Nivea lip balm .. and that’s my make-up done! And the best part .. It only takes me 10-15 minutes everyday WOOP!

SAM_2532

7:10-7:15AM– Now I get dressed! I usually have my outfits ironed and ready for the week (talk about being organised!) – So I get dressed, then put on my hijab! My outfits for work usually are black dresses/black trousers with smart tops/midi skirts with shirts and cardigans…. Workwear OOTD’s anyone? All together, this probably takes me around 10 minutes (maybe 15 if I am having a bad hijab day – they are the worst!)

IMG_5291

7:25AM – I make my way downstairs to make breakfast for me and hubby! As it has gotten colder, we both have toast with Nutella every morning! I also just make sure I have all my snacks/lunch ready for work (I take a lot of food to work guys!).

7:35AM – I then head back upstairs, make sure hubby’s clothes for work are out/do that last minute check of my face I spoke about earlier/apply my perfume. I ALWAYS put my perfume on just as I am about to leave .. anyone else do this?

7:40AM – I head back downstairs, check my phone for a few minutes, then am out the door!

7:45AM – I then make my way to the car – make sure my heated seats are on, put my music on as loud as acceptable that early in the morning.. and drive to work!

8:10-8:15AM – I normally get to work around this time – I then head inside, and get on with whatever work/emails/meetings I have for the day! AND that is my morning routine lovelies WOOP WOOP!

So I hope you liked this little insight into my morning guys .. I would love to read your morning routines too! I find them so interesting (I think it is because I am nosy muaha!). Let me know what you thought of this style of post lovelies … if you like them I would definitely love to do an evening routine/what I get up to in a day etc!

Anyway… UPDATE TIME YAY! I was honestly so glad to just sit down for an hour or so to write up this post today .. It really is a way for me to de-stress and just take some time out for a while! I also am working on a festive post which WILL be up some sometime this week.. and also a very special post for some of my fave blogging babes! NOT TO MENTION AN OUTFIT POST .. I feel like it has been a while since I put one up. I also will be working on a VERY exciting blog post this weekend.. keep your eyes peeled for that one loves!

I honestly just wish I had more time in the day! There are SO many posts I want to write… I am feeling very inspired by so many bloggers/brands! So my angels.. I think I will stop rambling for the day – I really hope you enjoyed this post.. and I will see you in my next one! I am just going to catch up on some blogs, watch TV, shower and then SLEEP!

Lots of Love,

Saira xo
